Science Day - Air Resistance and Gravity
Date: 23rd Nov 2021 @ 5:00pm
What an exciting Science Day we have had!
The children started by recapping what a 'force' is. They used their own bodies to find examples of pushes and pulls and gave examples of these forces in real life.
We then discussed 'gravity' and how this force works by pulling objects towards the centre of the Earth. The children investigated this by making 'rocket mice' and shooting them off different sized bottles. They were brilliant at explaining the link between the size of the bottle, the height that the mouse travelled to and also what caused the mice to fall to the ground..
Our final investigation of the day was to see if there was a link between the size (surface area) of a parachute and how long it took it to fall to the ground. We wanted Danny Dog to land safely and carefully. Can you remember which parachutes were the best?
Our learning didn't end there! We also used the iPads to research Galileo and we found out about an investiagtion that he completed into gravity. We even used the green screens to transport ourselves to the Leaning Tower of Pisa to present our findings!
I'm sure the children would love to share their learning with you. Please log in to the parent/pupil area of the website and leave us a comment about your favourite activity and also about what you learned during Science Day. Can you impress us by explaining the link between surface area and air resistance?
