Let Your Light Shine as a Writer

Statements for reading

Learning to read is one of the most important things your child will learn at our school. Everything else depends on it. At Hoole Church of England Primary School, reading is at the heart of the curriculum. Our aim is to teach children to become confident and competent readers. We want your child to love reading – and to want to read for themselves. This is why we are dedicated to ensuring children develop a love of books as well as simply learning to read. Parents are a vital part of this process and are actively encouraged to be involved in their child’s reading journey throughout their time at school.

Statements for writing

At Hoole Church of England Primary School, we believe that all pupils should be able to confidently communicate their knowledge, ideas and emotions through their writing. We want pupils to develop a wide vocabulary as well as an interest in and a love of words. We want pupils to secure a strong understanding of grammar and to be able to spell new words by effectively applying the spelling patterns and rules they learn throughout their time at Hoole. We want them to write clearly, accurately and coherently and be able to adapt their language and style for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences.

Writing is taught using the Pathways to Write system. This text-based approach provided children with the necessary skills needed to become confident and independent writers whilst also instilling a passion for writing. For more information on this see the documents below.
